NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Saint Louis freshman 3B Braxton Martinez has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced today. It is the first such honor of his career.
Martinez continued to excel in his freshman campaign last week against SIUE and Butler. He hit .500 with a .550 on-base percentage and a .812 slugging percentage en route to a three-game sweep of Butler. Martinez leads all A-10 freshmen in those categories. This season, he has a .349 batting average (13th in A-10), .a 516 slugging percentage (fifth in A-10) and a .422 on-base percentage (12th in A-10).
Martinez and the rest of the Billikens host the SIUE Cougars Tuesday, April 9, at the Billikens Sports Center. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
