ST. LOUIS– Olivia Roback hit her first home run of the season, but Saint Louis was edged 4-3 by Fordham Friday afternoon in an Atlantic 10 Conference game at the Billiken Sports Center.
Kelsey Biggs and Lindsay Friedman each went 3-for-4 for Saint Louis (14-17, 2-5 A-10), which out-hit the A-10's top offensive team 11-10. Fordham improved to 24-14 overall and 8-3 in league play.
The Billikens grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third as Friedman doubled with one out and scored on Biggs' two-out single. SLU made it 2-0 in the fourth when Alyson Brand drew a leadoff walk, went to second on Elizabeth Everingham's single and scored on Erin Harcar's double.
Fordham scored all of its runs in the fifth. Roback's homer, which easily cleared the left-field fence, came in the sixth with one out. With two away, the Bills put the potential tying and go-ahead runs aboard on Friedman's single and a walk to Jessica Van Nostrand, but both runners were stranded.
Brand and Laura Bohning added a single apiece for SLU.
The Billikens and Rams square off again Saturday. Game time is noon at the Billiken Sports Center.
