ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis senior designated player Laura Bohning (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) has been selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference first team by a vote of the league's head coaches, while freshman pitchers Brianna Lore (Sullivan, Mo./Sullivan) and Laney Kneib (Webb City, Mo./Webb City) garnered A-10 All-Rookie honors.
“I'm very proud of Laura, Bri and Laney,” head coach Christy Connoyer said. “Individual awards are great, and these three players are very deserving of the honors they've received. But I'm proud of our entire team as well. Our focus all year long has been on producing a total team effort, and that's just what this team has done.”
Bohning is tied for the Saint Louis lead with seven home runs (also tying the Billikens' single-season record) and 29 RBIs, and she has a team-high three sacrifice flies. She has a school-record three grand slams this season – two in the same inning in a victory at Rhode Island May 3, making her just the third NCAA Division I player to accomplish the feat, and another in a win in the regular-season finale at Massachusetts May 5 that clinched an A-10 Championship berth for the Bills.
In the Rhode Island game, Bohning set Saint Louis single-game marks for RBIs (nine) and total bases (11), and she tied school records for hits (four), runs (four) and at-bats (six).
Bohning is second on the team in slugging percentage (.520), multi-RBI games (six) and two-out RBIs (13); ranks third in batting average (.293), hits (36) and on-base percentage (.384); and is tied for third in multi-hit games (seven) and walks (19).
One of the Billikens' most productive players the past month, Bohning has hit safely in 16 of her last 18 games (22-for-57, .386). In A-10 games only, she batted .333 with a .606 slugging percentage, a .418 on-base percentage and team highs of five home runs and 22 RBIs.
Bohning became the SLU career leader in home runs (18) this season. She ranks fourth in RBIs (77) and slugging percentage (.436) on the Billiken career charts.
“In addition to coming through in several clutch situations this year, Laura has had a lot of hits with big run-producing impact,” Connoyer said. “She has consistently turned in quality at-bats. This honor is well-deserved for Laura.”
Lore owns a 13-14 record, a 2.74 ERA, four saves, one shutout and 10 complete games. She has 110 strikeouts and only 60 walks (2.19 per seven innings) in 191 2/3 innings. Her innings total ranks sixth on the SLU single-season list, and she is within striking distance of second place as the Bills prepare for the A-10 Championship that begins May 8.
Lore leads the A-10 in appearances (41) and starts (31), totals that rank second and third, respectively, on the Billiken season lists. She ranks second in the league in innings and saves (tied) and is seventh in ERA. Lore's four saves rank 19th nationally and are tied for the Saint Louis season record.
The left-hander has pitched especially well down the stretch. Lore is 6-2 with a 2.30 ERA and two saves in her last 11 outings (eight starts), and five of her six victories in that span were complete games. She yielded only 40 hits and 12 walks while tossing 51 2/3 innings in those 11 games.
Kneib is 13-7 with a 2.92 ERA, three saves and six complete games in 124 2/3 innings covering 34 appearances (16 starts). She has 48 strikeouts and just 40 walks (2.25 per seven innings).
Kneib is eighth in the A-10 in ERA, and her three saves rank 31st nationally and third on the SLU season chart. She has been particularly effective in her last 21 outings (12 starts), going 10-4 with two saves and a 2.57 ERA and averaging just 1.8 walks per seven innings.
With 13 wins apiece, Lore and Kneib are tied for sixth in the A-10 and tied for eighth on the Saint Louis single-season list. They need one more victory to move into a third-place tie and two more to tie for second on the Billiken season chart.
“Bri and Laney have been fun to watch,” Connoyer said. “Their steady improvement and maturity in the circle have been instrumental in our success. They certainly deserve to be recognized by the conference for their performance.”
