CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sophomore first baseman Mike Vigliarolo has been named the 2013 Atlantic 10 co-Player of the Year, the conference announced today. Vigliarolo is the first Billiken to win the award in the A-10.
Vigliarolo had a tremendous season for Saint Louis. Overall, he hit .335 with a team-leading 16 doubles, more than any other sophomore in SLU history. He led the conference in total bases, hits, defensive chances and putouts while finishing in the top three in slugging percentage and home runs.
Vigliarolo was one of several Billikens honored on the All-Conference team. Catcher Grant Nelson, shortstop Alec Solé and outfielder Alex Kelly join Vigliarolo on the first team. Second baseman Mike Levine and pitcher Clay Smith earned second team honors. It is the most first-team members and total honorees the Billikens have had in the A-10.
Freshmen Braxton Martinez and Matt Eckelman were also honored as members of the conference All-Rookie team.
Senior RHP Alex Alemann was named to the All-Academic team, boasting a 3.94 GPA in his MBA studies.
The Billikens will take on the winner of tomorrow's George Washington and Xavier contest. Saint Louis' first game is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. CT on May 23.
