Saint Louis dropped a pair of matches to nationally-ranked opponents to open the 2017 season. The Billikens fell to #10 BYU in the afternoon and #21 Ohio State in the evening. Both matches were part of the BYU Invitational in Provo, Utah.

Saint Louis Volleyball Picked Third in Preseason Poll

Saint Louis has been picked third in the Atlantic 10 volleyball preseason coaches poll, the league announced today. The Billikens finished third in the A-10 regular season last year and advanced to the Atlantic 10 Championship match. Defending champion Dayton was selected to repeat with 99 votes (nine first-place votes) with VCU picked second with 84 votes (one first-place vote). Following Saint Louis (77 votes) was Rhode Island (69), Duquesne (67), George Washington (45), Davidson (38), Fordham (36), La Salle (19) and George Mason (16). The Billikens return four starters and a libero from last year's team that finished 18-14 and took Dayton to five sets in the Atlantic 10 Championship match. They open the 2017 regular season this weekend when Saint Louis travels to Provo, Utah, to take on #10 BYU, #21 Ohio State and UTRGV in the BYU Invitational.

Billikens Earn AVCA Team Academic Award

Saint Louis has earned a 2016-17 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) team academic award. The award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA. The Billikens had a team GPA of 3.35. The Billikens return four starters and libero from last year's team that fell in the Atlantic 10 Championship match. They open the 2017 regular season this weekend when Saint Louis travels to Provo, Utah to take on BYU, Ohio State and UTRGV in the BYU Invitational.

Billikens Top Bradley in Exhibition Action

Saint Louis emerged victorious in the first-ever volleyball exhibition at Chaifetz Pavilion. The Billikens topped Bradley 3-1. Nenye Okoro led all attackers with 23 kills and added 10 digs for a double-double. Camila Rivas posted 37 assists in three sets of work. As a team, the Billikens hit .367 while holding Bradley to a .154 attack percentage.

She led the Billikens with 423 digs (3.55 per set) last year.  • SLU also returns Nenye Okoro, who was hampered by injury last year. Okoro posted 2.00 kills per set last year and has 681 career kills and 740 career digs. • The Billikens have two setters on roster: returning starter Camila Rivas and freshman Kennedy Cordia. Rivas led the Billikens with 649 assists (7.13 per set) last year. Cordia was an Andi Collins award nominee last season. The Collins award is bestowed to the top high school setter in the country. • Saint Louis has two new outside hitters this season in transfer Sien Gallop and freshman Maya Taylor. Gallop comes to SLU from Pacific and Taylor was a four-time All-State performer at Idaho Falls.  • The Billikens are led by head coach Kent Miller in his seventh season at the helm. He has a 99-84 mark at SLU. Billiken Volleyball Adds Assistant Coach Huskey

Saint Louis head volleyball coach Kent Miller has announced the addition of Matt Huskey to the Billikens' coaching staff. Huskey joins the Billikens from Central Arkansas, where he served as associate head coach. "I am very excited to be joining the Saint Louis volleyball program and Coach Miller's staff," Huskey said. "The SLU volleyball program has a rich tradition of success, and I look forward to helping elevate the program to new heights. Also, joining the SLU volleyball program offers me the unique opportunity to coach the sport that I love in the city that I love. I am thankful to Coach Miller and the SLU administration for the opportunity to join the Saint Louis volleyball family. The vision and the values of both the volleyball program and the athletic department were huge influences on my decision to join SLU volleyball, and I cannot wait to get started." "We are very excited to have Matt join our program," Miller said. "He is a quality individual who is dedicated to being a great coach and helping our program reach new heights.
