ST. LOUIS -- Saint Louis senior goalkeeper Mary Niehaus has been selected the Atlantic 10 Conference women’s soccer co-Defensive Player of the Week for the period of Sept. 25-Oct. 1. Niehaus has earned the award twice this season and five times during her career.
Niehaus registered her sixth and seventh shutouts of the season last week, increasing her career total to 16 clean sheets, as the Billikens defeated Davidson 2-0 and Saint Joseph's 3-0. Niehaus made five saves vs. Davidson and four stops in the Saint Joseph’s game.
Niehaus has allowed only six goals in 13 games this season. She leads the A-10 in goals against average (0.48), is tied for the league lead in shutouts and ranks third in save percentage (.864, only three percentage points behind the conference leader).
Saint Louis student-athletes have collected eight A-10 weekly awards this season, and at least one Billiken has been recognized in six of seven weeks. Seven different individuals have earned those weekly awards, and Billiken players have received at least two A-10 weekly honors in all three categories – Offensive, Defensive and Rookie.
At 11-1-1, Saint Louis owns the best 13-game record in program history. The Billikens are 3-1 in conference play, tied with George Washington and Duquesne for second place.
Saint Louis hosts A-10 rival Dayton Thursday, Oct. 5. First whistle at Robert R. Hermann Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.
