The 5K is a competitive run that loops around the beautiful Midtown campus of Saint Louis University. The route will be the same as last year, taking runners across the Grand Ave. bridge and through the heart of campus before ending at Chaifetz Arena.

This year's new Family Fun Walk, organized by Billiken alumni Ed Heigl and Bob Becker, will begin at 8:10 a.m. and will take walkers through the Billiken athletic complex and will include activity stations.

A record 400-plus runners and walkers participated in the fifth annual Billiken 5K run/walk Monday on a beautiful morning on the University campus.

Net proceeds from the event benefit the SLU Cancer Center. For the first time, this year's race crossed the new Grand Ave. bridge, and the route took participants past campus landmarks such as DuBourg Hall, the clocktower and College Church.

"It was a great day at the Billiken 5K," SLU director of athletics Chris May said. "When you get to partner with the SLU Cancer Center, it's certainly a special day for Billiken athletics. It was fun to have all 70 student-athletes from the track and field team out to volunteer, we had chairman of the board of trustees Joe Adorjan, and Dr. Mark Varvares is a wonderful partner. It's a great day to be a Billiken, and I couldn't be more proud of our community for coming together this morning ."
