PHILADELPHIA - Saint Louis All-America defender Tim Ream (St. Louis, Mo./St. Dominic) was drafted by the New York Red Bulls in today's MLS SuperDraft in Philadelphia. He was the 18th player selected overall, and the second player taken in the second round.

The 2009 Atlantic 10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Ream started all 22 games for the Billikens this season and contributed a career-high 17 points (6G, 5A) to rank second on the team. He notched two game winners, including a memorable tally late in the A-10 semifinal matchup against Rhode Island that vaulted the Billikens into the A-10 Championship title game. Ream was named to the NSCAA's third-team All-America squad at season's end.

"Tim was a major impact player for us, and we look forward to following him as he embarks on the next stage of his playing career," said SLU coach Dan Donigan, who has sent 13 players to MLS since being named head coach in 2001. "While it is a tough transition from college to MLS, Tim is a player who has the qualities and mentality to make a quick transition. He has a great competitive attitude with the right character and right personality. I think he will be a valuable asset to the New York Red Bulls."

Ream played in all but one game during his four-year Billiken career, totaling 82 games played and 68 starts. He ended his career with 24 career points (6G, 12A). He was named first-team All-Region (NSCAA) and second-team All-Conference his sophomore and junior seasons.

This marks the sixth straight season that at least one Billiken has been selected in the MLS SuperDraft. There are seven former Billikens active in MLS. They are Brandon Barklage (DC United), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo), Jack Jewsbury (KC Wizards), Brian McBride (Chicago Fire), Kyle Patterson (LA Galaxy) and Tim Ward (Chicago Fire).
