ST.
LOUIS – More than 350 runners and walkers participated in the third annual
Billiken 5K Monday on a beautiful morning on the Saint Louis University campus.
Net proceeds from the event benefit the Saint
Louis University Cancer Center. Billiken Athletics and the SLU Cancer Center
co-sponsored the 5K. All participants received free admission to Monday
afternoon's volleyball match at Chaifetz Pavilion, which the Billikens won 3-1.
Runners also received a voucher for free admission to SLU's PinkFest game Oct.
14 vs. Temple at Chaifetz Arena.
“It was a great day at the Billiken 5K,” SLU
director of athletics Chris May
said. “We had a great group of people that came out to support the cancer
center and the 5K. It is great to partner with Dr. Mark Varvares, and it is an
honor to help build a real special event around the SLU Cancer Center and
Billiken Athletics.”
“This 5K was our biggest ever,” said Mark Varvares, M.D., director of the
SLU Cancer Center. “We have more and more participates and more corporate
support. All are here to support the cancer center as we grow and work toward
improving the lives of our patients with cancer.”
The overall male winner was Matthew Coon with a
