ST. LOUIS - Keith Carter, currently a senior at Proviso East High School
outside of Chicago, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Saint
Louis University and play basketball for the Billikens. He begins his four
years of eligibility during the 2012-13 season.
A 6-foot point guard, Carter is a four-year starter at
Proviso East, which last season posted a 22-6 record and figures to be one of
the top teams in Illinois' Class 4A this season. In addition, he played on Team
NLP on the AAU circuit.
"Keith Carter is an undervalued player," SLU head coach Rick Majerus said. "He has a great
passing skill, can distribute the ball between the wings in transition and can kick-and-draw
in the half court. Although he doesn't have a high school post, we feel good
about the possibility of him being an adroit post feeder. Keith is an athlete
with blow-by speed who can get to the rim. His decision-making skills belie his
years. On paper, Keith is the best guard that we have recruited since coming to
Saint Louis University. He is a special player in that the game makes sense to
him.
"Keith is also a very good student, ranking in the top
15 percent of his high school class," Majerus said. "He has compiled excellent
scores in high school as well as on his college admission tests, so he'll fit
into the SLU mold of academic excellence very easily. He comes from a great
family. His father, Keith Sr., is an avid fan and is someone who, along with Keith's
mother, has sacrificed to give their son a leg up in the academic process.
Keith is just a great young man and we, as players and coaches, are excited to
have him join the Billiken basketball program."
The 2012-13 recruiting class also includes 6-6 forward Jared Drew (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral),
who was announced last week. Click here to read more about Drew.
