NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Saint Louis has been voted to finish sixth in the Atlantic 10 preseason baseball coaches' poll. The Billikens received 95 points.
Defending champion Charlotte was selected as the favorite, garnering 167 points. Rhode Island (second), Dayton (third), Xavier (fourth), Richmond (fifth), Fordham (seventh), La Salle (tied-eighth), Saint Joseph's (tied-eighth), St. Bonaventure (10th), George Washington (11th), Massachusetts (12th) and Temple (13th) rounded out the voting.
The 2012 Billikens will look to rebound from a 10th-place finish last season. Head coach Darin Hendrickson will return 21 lettermen, including pitchers junior Alex Alemann and sophomore Damian Rivera. The duo led the Billiken pitching staff to a team ERA of 3.97, fourth-best in the A-10. Saint Louis is only one year removed from an A-10 conference championship.
The 2012 campaign will begin on Feb. 17 at 4 p.m. in Nashville, Tenn. when the Bills take on Lipscomb as part of the Mule Mix Classic.
