BUFFALO, N.Y. - Nine Saint Louis school records were broken in the the first four events of the 2012 Atlantic 10 swimming and diving championship. Senior diver Chad Carmichael also finished second on the one-meter diving board with a score of 294.85.

There were only two swimming events on the first day of competition, but the Billikens swam well in both. For the 200-yard medley relay, the men broke the school record set earlier in the year. Their time of 1:30.93 is the new mark, and the trio of freshman Patrick May (50 backstroke, 23.77), junior Will Butzke (50 butterfly, 22.17) and freshman Zack Billingsley (50 freestyle, 19.81) all set their respective 50-yard split relay records as well.

The women's 200-yard medley team set a new standard, as well. Freshman Jalynn Gieseke broke the 50-yard butterfly split record (25.24) en route to the squad's time of 1:45.88.

The next and final event on the day was the 800-yard freestyle relay. The women's quad of junior Taylor Streid, sophomore Lizzy Osterman, sophomore Taylor Rogers and freshman Whitney Gould beat the old mark by a full three seconds when they touched the wall at 7:33.59. Streid led off the relay team with a time of 1:50.87, which is a school record in the 200-yard freestyle.

On the men's side, freshman Patrick MacArt broke the 200-yard freestyle split record with his split of 1:40.08. However, the men's team touched the wall at 6:52.33, finishing seventh.

The women's team sits in tenth after the first day, while the men are tied for third.
