Billikens Drop Tough Contest Against Arizona State

SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Saint Louis Billikens ended their four-game winning streak with a 9-1 loss against #11 Arizona State. This contest was the opening game of the Coca-Cola Classic for the Bills. The loss drops Saint Louis to 5-4 on the season.

Sun Devil starter Brady Rodgers was on top of his game against SLU. The Billikens were hitting .306 as a team entering the contest, but were held to four hits against ASU's staff ace.

Saint Louis got their lone run of the day in the fifth inning when senior catcher Connor Gandossy drew a walk. Freshman Alec Sole drove him in with a double in the next at-bat.

Sophomore LHP Damian Rivera picked up the loss to move to 0-2 on the season. Senior RHP Zack Smith was strong in his first appearance of the season. He threw one inning in the seventh and set the Sun Devils down in order. Fellow senior Jim Foster repeated the feat in the eighth.

Saint Louis will play St. Mary's (Calif.) tomorrow at 5 p.m. central in their second game of the Coca-Cola Classic.
