ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis and Creighton played to
a 2-2 draw this afternoon in a men's soccer spring exhibition match at Hermann
Stadium on the SLU campus.
The
Billikens, who rallied from a one-goal deficit at halftime, received a goal
from Robbie Kristo and had a shot by Jon Roeckle deflect off a Creighton defender for SLU's two tallies.
"I was pleased with how we fought back in the second half," SLU head coach Mike McGinty said. "Last year, Creighton advanced to the national semifinals and allowed only five goals all season, so this result proves we are heading in the right direction."
In a match
played in an unseasonable heat that neared 90 degrees, the Billikens trailed
1-0 at halftime. SLU got on the board 15
minutes into the second half when a ball off Roeckle's foot glanced off a Creighton defender and into the back of the net.
The
Billikens took the lead when Kristo headed home a Roeckle corner with less than 10 minutes to play. However, the
Bluejays scored minutes later to salvage the draw.
The
Billikens return to action Saturday, April 14, against Butler in Indianapolis.
The Billikens have home matches left during their spring campaign against
Washington University on Friday, April 20, and against Bradley on Saturday,
April 28.
SLU will
also host an alumni soccer banquet on Thursday, April 19, at 6:30 p.m. at
Chaifetz Arena. For more information, please call Jessica Lutz at 314-977-3266
