ST. LOUIS - Strong doubles play and four convincing singles wins
lifted Saint Louis men's tennis to a 5-2 triumph over Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Tuesday afternoon at Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
The Billikens improved to 6-11 with
the win, which was the 100th men's victory at Saint Louis for head coach Jon Zych.
SLU lost just five games in doubles
action. Joe Flanagan and Bobby Kidera were 8-2 winners at No. 1,
Drew Feder and Vuk Poledica won by the same score at No. 2, and Patrick Kella and Dave Welkener prevailed 8-1 at No. 3.
Singles wins came from Kidera at
No. 2 (6-2, 6-2), Yehia El Sallaly
at No. 3 (6-0, 6-0), Feder at No. 4 (6-2, 6-1) and Welkener at No. 6 (6-0,
6-0).
"It feels great to get the 100th
win on Senior Day," Zych said. "I am fortunate to be a college coach, and I
enjoy it. I appreciate my players, and I believe they make me a better coach."
The Bills hit the road to take on Xavier and Dayton
April 6 and 7, respectively, in the final two matches of the regular season.
The Atlantic 10 Conference Championship is set for April 13-15.
