ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis track and field
completed a highly successful inaugural Billiken Invitational Saturday at the
SLU Medical Center Stadium, achieving numerous personal and seasonal bests as
well as a school record.
The two-day event was the first ever home meet for the
Billikens at their new on-campus facility, which opened last fall on the SLU
Medical Campus.
Kita Alvares' performance in the 400-meter
hurdles was one of the many highlights on the track for the Billikens Saturday.
She finished the event in a school-record time of 1:00.72, which was good for
first. Brittney Cloudy, who won the
long jump last night, posted a season-best mark of 40-11 in the triple to
finish first. Both Alvares and Cloudy's marks should be good enough to qualify
them for the NCAA West Prelims, which are scheduled for late May in Austin,
Texas.
Other strong performances for the Bills included a
quartet of athletes in the 400 meters. Allison
Walter, Ashley Roche, Mallory Dugger and Caitlyn Brinkmann were the top four finishers in the event. Megan
Nigbur finished second in the 100 meters, while Naya Owusu finished first in the high jump. Hannah Kuenzel finished first in the shot put.
On the men's side, Michael
Scolarici won the 1,500 meters with a season-best time of 3:58.06. William Whitehead finished fourth in
the 100 meters, while Sean Canavin was
impressive in the 800 meters, finishing second. Dahmar Smiles ran a season-best time of 14.28 in the 110-meter
hurdles, which was good for second. Smiles also finished third in the 400-meter
hurdles.
