AMBLER,
Pa. - Laura Bohning tied Saint Louis'
single-game RBI record by driving in all five SLU runs, but the Billikens were
edged 6-5 by Temple Friday afternoon in an Atlantic 10 Conference game at
Ambler Field.
Bohning gave the Billikens
(19-30, 6-9 A-10) a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning with her
team-leading seventh double of the season. She put Saint Louis on top 5-2 in the
fifth with her fourth home run of the year, tying her for the team lead. Both
hits came with two outs.
However, Temple (25-19, 10-5
A-10) pulled even in the bottom of the third on Christina Sykora's one-out solo
home run and Sarah Prezioso's two-out RBI single. In the fifth, Prezioso
matched Bohning's RBI total for the day with a one-out grand slam that proved
to be the game winner.
Jessica
Van Nostrand
ignited both SLU rallies. Van Nostrand led off with a single in the third and
advanced on Kerri Dockins' walk and Jessica Buschjost's sacrifice. A fly
ball to left was not deep enough to score a run, but Bohning's two-bagger to
left center put the Bills on the board.
Van Nostrand's leadoff walk
sparked Saint Louis in the fifth. Dockins again sacrificed, and the Billikens
added a runner when Temple unsuccessfully tried to retire Van Nostrand on
Buschjost's ground ball to the shortstop. One out later, Bohning drove a pitch
over the center-field wall.
Buschjost and Lindsay Friedman registered a single
apiece. Hannah Huebbe (10-13)
absorbed the loss.
The
Billikens and Owls conclude their two-game series Saturday at 11 a.m. (CT).
