AMHERST, Mass. - Saint Louis senior Brittney Cloudy captured the long jump
title, while sophomore Naya Owusu
won the high jump Saturday on the first day of the Atlantic 10 Conference
Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Massachusetts.
For
Cloudy, it was the seventh A-10 title of her illustrious career. She continued
where she left off from the indoor championships in February when she was named
A-10 Indoor Field Performer of the Year after capturing A-10 crowns in the long
jump and triple jump. On Saturday, Cloudy posted a school-record mark of 19-8.
She goes for another title tomorrow when she competes in the triple jump.
Owusu
also posted a school record, jumping a height of 5-8 in the high jump to finish
first. It was the first conference title of her career.
Brian Holdmeyer claimed All-Conference honors
in the 10,000 meters, finishing second overall with a school-record time of 30:19.77.
Dahmar Smiles won his heat in the
110-meter hurdle prelims and will race in tomorrow's final. Smiles is the
two-time defending champion in the event.
Kita Alvares qualified for the finals in the
100-meter hurdles (14.48 prelims) and 400-meter hurdles (1:01.11 prelims), both
of which take place tomorrow. Allison
Walter will race in tomorrow's 400-meter final after posting a
school-record time of 55.94 in the prelims.
Sean Canavin posted a prelim time of 1:53.26
in the 800 meters to advance to tomorrow's final, while Jenna Romano advances on the women's side after registering a time
of 2:12.07.
