ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis took the team and
individual titles in the inaugural collegiate competition at the Forest Park XC
Festival Friday afternoon. It marked the first time in program history that the
men's and women's squads swept the team competition.
Jamee Holmes took home the individual title on
the women's side, running a 5K in 20:13.3. James
Collins was the top scorer on the men's side, covering the 6K course in
20:35.6. Collins finished behind Tom Kenyon, who was running unattached.
The women's
squad swept the top four spots in the race and five of the top six. Pulling in
behind Holmes was Emily Meingast, who
finished in a time of 20:40.6. Brooke
Restoff was third with a time of 21:00.9, while Antonia Leyden placed fourth in a time of 22:13.2. Kayla Snyder finished sixth overall
with a time of 22:13.2.
The women's
team finished with 16 points, easily surpassing Greenville (47 points) and St.
Louis College of Pharmacy (59).
One the
men's side, all five runners placed in the top 10. Thomas Beddome and Jeff Orf
finished fourth and fifth with times of 21:01.6 and 21:06.8, respectively. Stewart Van Horne placed seventh in a
time of 21:37.1, while Jose Mendez
was 10th in a time of 22:10.6.
SLU
recorded 27 points, finishing ahead of Greenville (33) and St. Louis College of
Pharmacy (63).
The
Billikens are back in action Friday, Sept. 14, for the National Catholic
Championships at the University of Notre Dame.
