Osterman, Men's Relays Lead Billikens at Butler

INDIANAPOLIS - Lizzy Osterman won two individual events, and both men's relay teams captured first place to lead the Saint Louis swimming and diving teams at Butler's 5-Way Double Dual Meet Sept. 30.

Saint Louis posted a 2-2 record in the women's competition and a 1-2 mark in the men's meet. The Billiken women defeated Butler 169-61 and Valparaiso 172.5-54.5 and fell to Evansville 153-87 and Wright State 140-102. On the men's side, the Bills topped Valparaiso 161-59 and lost 131-99 to Evansville and 144-86 to Wright State.

Osterman touched first in the 200 freestyle (1:57.71) and the 200 butterfly (2:11.49). Morgan Peterson joined Osterman on the winner's stand by capturing first place in the 400 individual medley (4:37.60).

The quartet of Pat May, Stephen Hansen, Will Butzke and Zack Billingsley won the 400 medley relay in 3:32.12. Patrick MacArt, May, Justin Pasquesi and Billingsley were victorious in the 400 freestyle relay (3:09.69). Billingsley collected his third title of the day by besting the field in the 50 freestyle (21.51).

Jalynn Gieseke finished second in the 50 freestyle with a 25.06 clocking and placed third in the 200 butterfly in 2:14.42. Other third-place performances were turned in by Christiana Eltiste in 3-meter diving (222.65); the 400 medley relay team of Peterson, Melanie Battaglia, Gieseke and Taylor Rogers (4:06.49); and the 400 freestyle relay squad of Osterman, Julia Herbig, Kirsten Gobell and Emily Kopec (3:43.87).

For the men's team, Shane Cano was runner-up in the 200 backstroke (2:00.74). May finished third in the 50 freestyle (22.00) and tied Billingsley for third in the 100 freestyle (48.43).

The Billikens return to action Saturday, Oct. 6, at Western Illinois.
