Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Carly Marcum led a balanced offensive
attack, and Saint Louis limited Charlotte to a .109 attack percentage in a
25-21, 25-18, 25-15 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over the 49ers Sunday
afternoon at Halton Arena.
The Billikens,
who have won two of their last three matches, improved to 7-14 overall and 2-5
in the A-10. Charlotte fell to 8-11, 0-7.
Marcum tallied
match highs of 11 kills and a .500 attack percentage (11-2-18) as SLU hit a
solid .260. Megan Gilbert (6-1-13, .385), Nicole Sniffen (6-1-16, .312) and Anna
Church had
six kills apiece, while Cassie Clarke and Lindsey Dinkelacker each collected five.
Grace Bonoma posted a team-high 13 digs
and now has 989 digs for her career. Church had 12 digs, while Dinkelacker and Andrea
Bolt
registered nine apiece. Marcum led at the net with three blocks, and Clarke
picked up 30 assists.
In set one,
Saint Louis used a 10-4 run to turn a 10-5 deficit into a 15-14 lead. Charlotte
scored five of the next seven points for a 19-17 advantage, but the Billikens
chalked up four straight and eight of the final 10 points to claim the set.
SLU trailed only
once - a 1-0 third-set deficit - in the final two frames. The Bills built a
nine-point cushion in set two before settling for the seven-point win.
Charlotte hung around in the third set and trailed 14-12 before Saint Louis
finished the match with an 11-3 flurry.
The
Billikens return to Chaifetz Pavilion Friday, Oct. 19, hosting 18th-ranked
Dayton in an A-10 clash that begins at 7 p.m.
