ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University head men's
soccer coach Mike McGinty was tabbed
the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Middle Atlantic
Coach of the Year. The honor comes after a vote of other NCAA Division I head
coaches.
McGinty,
the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Soccer Coach of the Year, led the storied
Billiken program back to the NCAA Tournament in 2012. Saint Louis registered 16
wins this season, the most since the 2001 club posted 18. As the No. 2 seed in
the A-10 Tournament, the Billikens won three games in four days to secure their
second A-10 title since joining the league.
The
Billikens received the No. 8 national seed in the NCAA Tournament, which
resulted in a first-round bye. Additional highlights during the 2012 slate
include the Billikens entering the national rankings, as well as recording
their best RPI ranking ever. In addition, SLU had four victories against ranked
foes.
McGinty
will be honored next Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Missouri Athletic Club as the recipient
of the Carl O. Bauer Award. That honor is bestowed annually upon the top
amateur sports figure in the St. Louis area.
