ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis track and field opened
its indoor season Saturday at the Saluki Fast Start in Carbondale, Ill. SLU
enjoyed several personal-best performances and first-place finishes.
On the men's side, Sean
Canavin won the closely contest mile race with a time of 4:23.43. Charlie Michel and Jack Hostettler finished first and second in the 3,000 meters with
times of 8:41.34 and 8:41.72, respectively.
On the women's side, three Billikens finished in the top
four in the 400 meters. Allison Walter was
second with a time of 57.56, while Ashley
Roche placed third in a time of 58.42. Kita
Alveres finished fourth with a mark of 58.85.
Laura Schlueter was second in the 800 meters
with a time of 2:25.58, while Dana
Siebenaller came in fourth with a time of 2:27.35. Jessica Hoefert led a large contingent of Billikens in the 3,000
meters with a time of 10:12.56.
Naya Owusu tied for second in the high jump
with a mark of 5-6, while Julia Gairhan was
third in the pole vault (10-6).
The Billikens will not compete again until 2013, when
they travel to Champaign, Ill., for the Illini Open on Jan. 12.
