Billikens Play to 1-1 Draw Against Indiana

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Saint Louis men's soccer battled defending national champion Indiana to a 1-1 draw in the spring exhibition opener March 23 at Glenwood High School in Springfield, Ill.

SLU, coming off an Atlantic 10 Conference championship, received a goal from Tyler David off a restart in the 33rd minute to tie the score at 1-1. Indiana scored first in the 23rd minute.

David Andre, a freshman keeper who enrolled early at SLU and is eligible to participate in spring action, made several dazzling saves in the second half to help preserve the tie.

It was the second year in a row that rivals SLU and Indiana played during the spring at Glenwood High School. The match served as a fundraiser for Kailey's Krew, which was established in 2011 by Gary and Shelli Wilmwarth in memory of their daughter, Kailey, who lost her battle with leukemia. The mission of the organization is to provide financial assistance to families of children in central Illinois with long-term illnesses or disabilities.

“It was a great game for a great cause,” SLU head coach Mike McGinty said. “Both teams created good chances, and I think the crowd saw some very entertaining soccer.”

The Billikens resume their spring exhibition campaign Saturday, April 6, when Marquette visits Robert R. Hermann Stadium for a 6 p.m. matchup. SLU faces Louisville on Sunday, April 7, at Hermann Stadium at 11 a.m. Both matches are free to attend.
