Billikens Sign Maryann Ejele to NLI

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis head volleyball coach Kent Miller has announced the signing of middle blocker Maryann Ejele (Virginia Beach, Va.). Ejele will begin competition at SLU in the fall of 2013.

Ejele is a standout at Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, Va. For the Cavaliers, she played in 62 sets, recorded 25 blocks and 138 kills with a .462 hitting percentage and earned All-District accolades. Ejele is also an outstanding student and was named to the school's honor roll in 2012-13. She was named the Cavaliers' most improved player by head coach Craig Dooren. In club season, Ejele plays for the Coastal 18s under coach John Castro.

The 6-foot-2 Ejele can touch 10 feet on her vertical leap and is expected to develop into a solid contributor for SLU.

"We are very excited to have Maryann join our program,” Miller said. “She is a tremendous athlete and a dedicated student. Maryann has made impressive strides as a volleyball player the past couple of years, and we are really looking forward to having her in our gym. We expect her to develop into a force in our conference and help lead us to new levels of success. As a staff, we have enjoyed getting to know Maryann throughout the recruiting process and know that she will bring a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the court."

Ejele completes a highly touted recruiting class for the Billikens. She joins Mal Dillon, Ashley Gagen, Jessica JendrykTaylor PaulsonDanielle Rygelski and Rebecca Tipton in the Billiken recruiting class of 2013.

Miller and the Billikens wrap up the exhibition season this Saturday at Chaifetz Pavilion when they host the Saint Louis Spring Fling. Participating schools are Iowa, McKendree and Saint Louis. An alumni team comprised of former Billikens will round out the four-team field. First serve is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
