ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis track and field sent student-athletes to three different meets this weekend.
Several Billikens competed in the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines. Kita Alvares lowered her own school record in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing 13th overall with a time of 60.14. The Billikens also entered several relay events. The 1,600-meter sprint medley relay team, consisting of Blair Turner, Ashley Roche, Allison Walter and Laura Schlueter finished in a time of 4:05.65.
Running on the 4x200-meter relay squad was Turner, Brooklynn Bastain, Britta Engstrom and Kelsey Gentry. They finished with a time of 1:43.75. The Billikens also entered the 4x400-meter relay. The quartet of Alvares, Walter, Roche and Bastain posted a time of 3:47.12, the best mark by the Billikens at the Drake Relays.
On the men's side, Sean Canavin, Tommy Whittaker, Stewart Van Horne and Henry Arndt ran the distance medley relay in 10:09.90.
SLU also had athletes at the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. Tom Beddome registered a PR in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:04.25. Thomas Maney had a PRs in the 100 meters (11.75) and 200 meters (23.81). Two Billikens registered PRs in the 800 meters – Pat Sheil (1:56.99), Jeff Orf (1:57.03).
On the women's side, Jamee Holmes was 12th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:47.01. Emily Meingast was 17th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:25.03.
Finally, the throwers competed at Illinois College in the True Blue Open. Hanna Kuenzel finished first in the hammer throw with a toss of 48.04 meters and second in the discus (38.69 meters) and shot put (13.29 meters). On the men's side, Todd Johnson was sixth in the shot put with a distance of 13.42 meters and seventh in the hammer throw with a heave of 43.02 meters. Robert Tosie placed eighth in the discus with a mark of 41.16 meters.
