CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Brianna Lore and Laney Kneib combined on a five-hitter, and Saint Louis scored four unearned runs to beat Southeast Missouri State 5-1 Wednesday evening.
The Billikens improved to 24-19, while the Redhawks fell to 15-31.
Saint Louis scored in four consecutive innings, tallying single runs in the second, third and fourth and plating two in the fifth.
Meanwhile, Lore (12-13) allowed just two hits and one walk in four innings. A fourth-inning solo homer by Simone Patterson was the only run SEMO could muster. Kneib, who picked up her third save, yielded three hits and struck out two over the final three innings.
Jessica Van Nostrand walked and stole second, one of her three steals, to begin the SLU second inning. She moved to third on Elizabeth Everingham's fly ball. Ellie Huffman reached on an error, and when she stole second, Van Nostrand scored on a throwing error by the catcher.
The Bills made it 2-0 in the third when Jessica Buschjost led off with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on Lindsay Friedman's single.
In the fourth, Huffman drew a leadoff walk, moved up on ground balls by Erin Harcar and Olivia Roback, and scored when Buschjost reached on an error.
The Billikens scored a pair of two-out runs in the fifth with the benefit of just one hit. Van Nostrand ignited the rally with her second single of the day and swiped second. Following a walk to Everingham, Huffman reached on a throwing error that allowed Van Nostrand to score and put runners at second and third. Harcar drove in Everingham with a ground ball.
Kelsey Biggs doubled for Saint Louis, while Laura Bohning and Madeline Brungardt collected a single apiece.
The Billikens begin the final weekend of regular-season play with an Atlantic 10 Conference single game at Rhode Island Friday, May 3. SLU meets Rhody for another single tilt the following day before playing an A-10 doubleheader at Massachusetts Sunday.
The A-10 Championship, hosted by UMass, begins Wednesday, May 9.
