Billikens to Play in 2013 Men?s Cancun Challenge

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis University is one of eight schools that will participate in the 2013 Men's Cancun Challenge in November.

The tournament format includes eight games played in the United States (Nov. 21 and 23) where the four teams in the Riviera Division (Saint Louis, Wisconsin, Old Dominion, West Virginia) host the four schools in the Mayan Division (Bowling Green, Georgia Southern, Oral Roberts and Presbyterian). All eight teams then travel to Mexico's all-inclusive Aventura Palace resort near Playa del Carmen for two games played in their respected divisions (Nov. 26-27).

All four games of the Riviera Division will be nationally televised LIVE in HD from the Aventura Palace Convention Center on CBS Sports Network.  The Mayan Division games will be webcast on CBSsports.com, ULive.

The Cancun Challenge is regarded as one of the most unique preseason men's college basketball tournaments.  Teams stay at the Aventura Palace and enjoy all the amenities the resort has to offer.  A ballroom is converted into an arena, and fans who attend the event get an up-close perspective of their team while enjoying an all-inclusive setting.  Previous champions include Vanderbilt (2008), Kentucky (2009), Missouri (2010), Illinois (2011) and Wichita State (2012).

This is the Billikens' second trip to Mexico in recent years. During the 2010-11 season, SLU participated in the Cancun Governor's Cup at the Poliforum Benito Juarez over Christmas.

The Cancun Challenge is owned and produced by Triple Crown® Sports, which also organizes the Women's Cancun Challenge, and the Preseason and Postseason Women's NIT.  Triple Crown is a leader in youth and college sports and manages more than 300 youth events across the country in baseball, basketball, softball and volleyball.  With 30 years of experience running sporting events, Triple Crown is nationally recognized for its professionally-produced destination tournaments.
