ST. LOUIS - Freshman third baseman Braxton Martinez was named second-team Freshman All-America by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA). He is the third Freshman All-American under head coach Darin Hendrickson, and the first to be recognized by the NCBWA.
Martinez had a strong rookie campaign for SLU, posting a .314 average with a .450 slugging percentage and a .385 on-base percentage. He was third on the team with seven home runs and 12 doubles. Martinez set the Saint Louis freshman records in hits (76), games played (62) and games started (62), while finishing second in total bases (109), third in doubles (12) and fourth in walks (27).
Alex Alemann was a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American in 2010, and Zach Miller earned the honor in 2009.
