ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis junior RHP James Norwood has impressed MLB Draft experts who are projecting him as one of the top MLB Prospects in the country.
Norwood was recently named the No. 61 prospect in the country by Baseball America. Earlier this year, Perfect Game projected him as the No. 66 prospect. Perfect Game also listed Norwood at 45 on their list of the Top College Draft Prospects.
Independent scouting blog Big League Futures wrote an in-depth scouting report on Norwood. Some of the highlights include:
“Fastball: 94-97 MPH. Norwood looks very comfortable and confident using his top tier fastball against any level of hitting. He has a great deal of run on his two-seam fastball.”
“Curveball: 81-83 MPH. He uses this pitch with a high level tilt. Norwood often seems to use this pitch in 0-0 or 0-2 counts. It, at times, can be a get me over type of strike. I think this could be a pitch that Norwood keeps at the next level as it continues to develop.”
“Summary: Norwood was a guy who last year was rumored as a possible day 2 pick in 2014 MLB Draft. After touching 97 this fall and showing no signs of injury, Norwood easily could be a top 4 round guy. If his 4 pitches continue to improve, I like Norwood to be taken early in this year's draft.”
