ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis sophomore Manuel De Backer (co-Performer of the Week) and Aaron Dugan (co-Rookie of the Week) picked up Atlantic 10 Conference cross country weekly awards, the league announced today.
In addition, the men’s cross country team is ranked at No. 12 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest regional rankings. That is the best ranking ever for the men’s squad.
De Backer led the Billikens and finished second overall at the Bradley Pink Classic on Friday, posting an 8K time of 24:23.5. Dugan was 38th overall with a time of 25:16.17. Saint Louis won the team title with 103 points, the second team title in a multi-team meet of the season.
"The 2016 season has by far been the best season for our men since I became the head coach in 2007, SLU head coach Jon Bell said. “They have been consistent with their training and have made the sacrifices necessary to be a successful team. This is evident in their race results. We have one more month of the season and it is the most important part of the schedule as we have the A-10 Championships and the NCAA Midwest Regional. The training plan we established at the beginning of the season is working and we will continue to improve through this last month."
