•Saint Louis exploded for 30 points in the third quarter and went on to post a 69-41 victory over Maryville Friday at Chaifetz Arena in the Billikens’ only exhibition game of the season.
•SLU outscored Maryville, a member of the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Valley Conference, 30-9 in the third stanza after leading just 24-23 at halftime. The visiting Saints led by two points after one quarter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
•Six different Maryville players scored in the first quarter, and the Saints led by as many as six points before settling for a 16-14 edge after 10 minutes of play.
•The Billikens took the lead for good, 22-21, on an Aaliyah Covington bucket with 5:04 left in the second quarter.
•After SLU scored the first nine points of the third quarter for its first double-digit lead, Maryville cut the margin to six.
•But the Billikens, who got points from six different players in the period, went on a 17-0 run to take command. Jackie Kemph scored 10 of her 13 points in the third quarter, which ended with the Bills in front 54-32.
•Sadie Stipanovich scored a game-high 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds.
•Jackie Kemph added a game-high nine assists to her 13 points.
•Jordyn Frantz had two 3-pointers and tossed in 10 points.
•Maddison Gits narrowly missed a double-double, scoring nine points and collecting a game-high-tying 10 rebounds.
•Olivia Jakubicek gathered seven rebounds to help Saint Louis earn a 46-29 advantage on the boards.
•Jenny Vliet made a game-high three steals.
•Brooklyn Chaffin, 11 points; Madeline Hartke, 10 points; Alex Wolf, 10 rebounds.
UP NEXT•The Billikens open the regular season with two games in California, taking on UC Irvine Nov. 11 and Loyola Marymount Nov. 13. Both games tip at 4 p.m. (CT). Saint Louis plays its home opener Nov. 17 vs. SIUE at 4:30 p.m.
