Jordyn Frantz, Jackie Kemph and Maddison Gits combined for 58 points to lead Saint Louis to a 79-69 season-opening win over UC Irvine Friday afternoon at UCI’s Bren Events Center.

•Frantz was 4-of-8 from 3-point range on her way to a career- and game-high 20 points. Kemph was 5-of-9 from beyond the arc and also scored 20 to go with a game-high eight assists.

•Gits scored a career-high 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Olivia Jakubicek collected a game-high 10 rebounds and Sadie Stipanovich added nine to lead SLU to a 46-25 advantage on the boards.


•After Saint Louis held early leads of 7-5 and 10-7, a 10-2 run gave UC Irvine a 17-12 advantage at the end of one quarter.

•The Anteaters maintained the upper hand throughout most of the second quarter, but 3-pointers by Maddison Gits and Jackie Kemph tied the game at 30.

•The teams traded baskets in the final moments, and the first half ended in a 34-34 deadlock.

•Frantz scored 12 of her 20 points in the third quarter. She hit a jumper to tie the score at 36, then drained a triple on SLU’s next possession to give the Billikens the lead for good.

•Gits also made a big contribution in the third, netting nine points to help Saint Louis grab a 60-49 lead heading into the final stanza.

•An early fourth-quarter bucket allowed UC Irvine to cut the margin to nine, but Kemph answered with a 3-pointer that put the lead into double digits for good. The Bills built a 20-point cushion midway through the period.


•Saint Louis shot 56 percent (18-of-32) in the second half.

•The Billikens earned a 26-8 advantage in bench scoring.

•SLU’s 46 rebounds included 16 offensive caroms. Olivia Jakubicek and Sadie Stipanovich had six and five offensive boards, respectively.

Jordyn Frantz tied her career high of four assists and added five rebounds.

Jackie Kemph’s five 3-pointers are her career high.

Kerri McMahan contributed six points and five assists in her Billiken debut.

•The Billikens wrap up their West Coast trip by taking on Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles Sunday, Nov. 13. Tipoff is slated for 4 p.m. (CT). Saint Louis plays its home opener Nov. 17 vs. SIUE at 4:30 p.m.
