THE BASICS
Saint Louis fell 85-64 to Ball State Friday night in the season opener for both teams. Senior forward Reggie Agbeko registered a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while junior guard Davell Roby pumped in a team-high 14 points.

Ball State shot 51.7 percent from the field, 56.5 percent from 3-point range and 80 percent from the stripe. Franko House was 4-of-4 from long range en route to a game-high 23 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-- Ball State’s hot shooting was on display early, as the Cardinals hit their first four 3-pointers and opened up a 20-6 advantage early on.
-- The Billikens’ Elliott Welmer, making his first-career start, answered with a first-half trey to pull the Billikens back to within 11. With less than four minutes left, Ball State went on a 10-0 run to take command.
-- SLU’s Jalen Johnson halted the rally with a 3-pointer, the first points of his career, but back-to-back triples by Ball State gave the Cardinals a 25-point lead late. Mike Crawford converted a layin at the horn as the Billikens trailed 43-19 at halftime.
-- Saint Louis outscored Ball State 45-42 in the second half, but were never to pull closer than 20 points of the lead.
-- With less than 12 minutes left, the Billikens went on a 7-0 run on layups by Roby and Agbeko, and a Zeke Moore 3-pointer, to pull SLU within 20 at 42-62. But that is as close as the Billikens would get to the lead.
-- The Billikens scored the final six points of the game and lost by the 21-point margin, 85-64.

BILLIKEN NOTABLES
-- It was Agbeko’s fourth double-double of his career. Dating back to last season, Agbeko has led the Billikens in rebounding in five straight games.
-- Roby’s 14 points came on 6-of-13 shooting from the field. He also corralled six rebounds, one shy of his career high.
-- Johnson and Moore scored 10 and seven points, respectively, in their collegiate debuts. Johnson was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line, while Moore posted a team-high three steals.
-- Welmer scored seven points in his debut and registered three blocks.

BALL STATE LEADERS
-- Franko House scored 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 from 3-point range; Tayler Persons scored 21 points; Tahjai Teague scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
