Kansas State used a late first-half run and an early second-half spurt to take command, and the Wildcats went on to defeat Saint Louis 84-53 Saturday night at Chaifetz Arena.
The Billikens slipped to 2-5, while Kansas State improved to 7-1.
Jermaine Bishop posted 11 points and five assists to pace the Billikens. Davell Roby tallied 10 points and four assists, and Mike Crawford tossed in 10 points.
Zeke Moore scored eight points, while Reggie Agbeko and Elliott Welmer grabbed seven rebounds apiece. Agbeko’s total included a game-high four offensive boards.
Kansas State, which shot 60.7 percent from the field in the second half to finish at 52.5 percent for the game, was led by D.J. Johnson’s 21 points and 10 rebounds. Johnson was 10-of-11 from the field.
Xavier Sneed buried 4-of-6 from 3-point range and scored 15 points. Dean Wade registered 13 points, while Kamau Stokes and Carlbe Ervin II dished out seven and five assists, respectively.
After Roby canned a 3-pointer on SLU’s opening possession, Kansas State went on a 13-2 run to take a 13-5 lead. The Billikens answered with Moore’s triple and a Welmer bucket to make it a three-point game, 13-10.
An 11-3 K-State flurry, capped by 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions, gave the Wildcats their first double-digit lead, 24-13. Crawford’s basket and a Jalen Johnson trey drew Saint Louis to within six, 24-18.
It was 31-20 after Sneed netted his third 3-pointer of the first half, a shot that sparked a 13-2 run that gave K-State a 41-22 halftime lead. The Wildcats scored on nine of their first 12 second-half possessions, outscoring SLU 18-7 during that span to go on top 59-29.Up next for Saint Louis is a trip to Wichita State Tuesday, Dec. 6.
