ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis picked up its second straight victory Saturday night, defeating North Carolina A&T 78-59 in a nonconference men’s basketball matchup at Chaifetz Arena.
It was the third win in a row at Chaifetz Arena for the Billikens, who improve to 8-15. North Carolina A&T falls to 1-22.
Three Billikens finished in double figures, led by senior guard Mike Crawford’s 19 points. Junior guard Davell Roby buried a career-high six 3-pointers en route to 18 points, while senior forward Reggie Agbeko chipped in with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Redshirt junior guard Aaron Hines was one point shy of a double-double, finishing with nine points and 10 assists. He did not commit a turnover.
As a team, the Billikens recorded a Chaifetz Arena record 26 assists (on 29 made baskets).
SLU shot 50 percent or better in each half for the first time this season and finished with a 52.7 percent shooting mark from the field. The Billikens also recorded a season-high 10 3-pointers.
North Carolina A&T was led by James Whitaker’s 13 points. Aaron Scales posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.
The Billikens used an 8-1 rally late in the first half to pull away from a four-point lead. A Roby 3-pointer at the end of the first half gave the Billikens a 10-point lead at the break.
North Carolina A&T threatened in the second half and twice pulled to within two of the lead, but the Billikens had an answer each time.
A 12-0 run by SLU, sparked by a Roby 3-pointer with 5:49 left, gave the Billikens a comfortable cushion and they cruised to the 19-point win.
The Billikens jump back into Atlantic 10 Conference play on Wednesday when they travel to Olean, N.Y., to face St. Bonaventure. Game time is 6 p.m. (CT), and the game will be televised on FOX Sports Midwest.
