THE BASICS
•Three Saint Louis players drove in two runs apiece, and the Billikens overcame an early deficit to post a 10-4 victory over South Carolina State Saturday on day two of Kennesaw State's Phyllis Rafter Memorial Tournament.
•SLU improved to 2-1, while South Carolina State slipped to 0-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
•Saint Louis grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Emma Buckles' sacrifice fly.
•In the second, South Carolina State went in front 3-1 on a three-run home run.
•SLU cut the Bulldogs' lead in half with an unearned run in the bottom of the second.
•The teams traded runs in the third, with the Billikens plating another unearned tally on an RBI double by Taylor Meeks.
•Saint Louis produced four runs in the fourth to take a 7-4 lead. Alex Nickel and Mackenzie Peter each tripled in a run, Peter scored on a wild pitch and Allie Macfarlane smacked a solo home run, the Billikens' first round-tripper of the season.
•In the fifth, Nickel and Buckles collected RBIs on groundouts to increase SLU's advantage to 9-4.
•Meeks drove in her second run of the game on a fielder's choice in the sixth.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Kaylea Chappelle recorded her first collegiate win in the circle. Chappelle went the distance, struck out five, allowed five hits and walked only one.
•Alyssa Tarquinio was 3-for-4.
•Hailey Weavers went 2-for-3.
•Macfarlane and Peter were 2-for-4.
•Josie Knesel singled and stole two bases.
•Bailey Strecker added a single to the Billikens' 13-hit attack.
