RICHMOND, Va. – VCU rallied for a 64-50 win over Saint Louis Wednesday night in Atlantic 10 Conference men’s basketball action at the Siegel Center.
The loss dips SLU to 9-19 overall and 4-11 in the A-10. VCU remains tied for first in the A-10 with Dayton with a 23-5 overall mark and a 13-2 record in the league.
SLU freshman forward Jalen Johnson led the team with a game-high-tying 17 points. He was 5-of-8 from the field, 2-of-3 from 3-point range and 5-of-5 from the charity stripe. He also recorded two blocks and pulled down seven rebounds.
Davell Roby chipped in with 11 points on 5-of-12 shooting.
The Billikens came out strong and had a six-point lead with less than eight minutes left in the first half, but VCU responded and took an 11-point lead into halftime. SLU recorded the first basket of the second half to briefly pull within single digits, but VCU answered and led by as much as 20 in the second session.
Saint Louis returns to action Saturday afternoon, facing Saint Joseph’s at Chaifetz Arena in a 3:30 p.m. (CT) tipoff. The game will be televised on NBCSN.
