•Alex Nickel homered twice, but a seven-run third inning propelled Rhode Island to an 8-3 Atlantic 10 Conference win over Saint Louis Saturday afternoon.
•The game was played at Sacred Heart University due to unplayable field conditions at Rhode Island.
•SLU fell to 14-14 overall and 3-3 in the A-10.
•Rhode Island improved to 3-18, 1-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
•Nickel led off the game with a home run.
•Rhode Island took advantage of two SLU errors in the third inning to plate seven runs, six of them unearned.
•The Rams added a run in the fourth.
•Nickel homered again leading off the sixth – her third of the season – and the Billikens scored a second run in the inning on Alyssa Tarquinio’s sacrifice fly.
•Nickel tied the Saint Louis career record of 150 runs scored. Her two home runs gave her 26 for her career, just three shy of Lindsay Friedman’s school mark.
•Mackenzie Peter singled twice.
•Emma Buckles and Josie Knesel had a single apiece.
•Kaylea Chappelle allowed just one run and two hits in 3 1/3 innings of relief.
