•Saint Louis clinched a spot in next week's Atlantic 10 Conference Championship with a 10-2 (five innings), 9-4 doubleheader sweep of St. Bonaventure Saturday afternoon at Joyce Field.
•The Billikens improved to 24-23 overall and 12-10 in the A-10.
•Alex Nickel hit her 30th career home run in the opener, claiming outright possession of the SLU record.
•St. Bonaventure fell to 12-37, 2-17.
•Sunday's series finale was cancelled due to an unfavorable weather forecast.
GAME 1 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•St. Bonaventure took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but Billiken pitcher Maddie Baalman prevented further damage by working out of a bases-loaded jam.
•The Billikens answered with five runs in the top of the second. After the tying run scored on a wild pitch, Nickel and Josie Knesel produced back-to-back two-run doubles for a 5-1 lead.
•Saint Louis added four tallies in the third. Emma Buckles plated the first run with a sacrifice fly, and Nickel followed with her record-breaking home run, a three-run shot that was her seventh homer of the season.
•Mackenzie Peter's team-leading ninth home run of the season in the fourth increased the lead to 10-1.
•The Bonnies scored once in the bottom of the fourth, but Baalman again stranded the bases loaded.
GAME 1 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Nickel's five RBIs tied her career high.
•Peter and Alyssa Tarquinio had two hits apiece.
•Baalman, who picked up her 14th win, struck out five and allowed just four hits.
GAME 2 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•SLU took control early with three runs in the first. Allie Macfarlane knocked in two with a double, and the third run scored on a wild pitch.
•The lead ballooned to 7-0 in the third as the Bills put four 2-out runs on the board. Taylor Meeks delivered a two-run single, followed by RBI singles off the bats of Hailey Weavers and Buckles.
•St. Bonaventure registered two unearned runs in the bottom of the third.
•Macfarlane drove in her third run of the game with a groundout in the fourth.
•The Bonnies scored twice in the fifth to narrow the Billikens' lead to 8-4.
•Tarquinio's RBI double in the sixth completed the scoring.
GAME 2 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Macfarlane added a single for a two-hit game.
•Mackenzie Lawson had two hits, including a double.
•Nickel and Peter had two singles apiece.
•Starting pitcher Kaylea Chappelle tossed five innings and notched her seventh win of the season. Chappelle fanned three, walked only one and allowed two earned runs.
•Baalman pitched two scoreless innings of relief, striking out two.
