St. Louis Mo. | Hermann Stadium
No. 8 Syracuse scored the golden goal in the 95th minute to complete a come-from-behind win over Saint Louis in men’s soccer action Friday night at Hermann Stadium. It was the season opener for both teams.
The Billikens’ (0-1) bid to knock off a top 10 opponent in the season opener for the second year in a row took a positive turn in the 72nd minute when Jacob Krupp scored off a feed from Spencer Jones. Krupp, a transfer from the University of Memphis appearing in his first game with the Billikens, finished with his left foot to give the Billikens the 1-0 lead.
Less than 10 minutes later, Syracuse answered with the equalizer to knot the game at 1-1, and the game headed to overtime.
Syracuse won the match with a goal in the 95th minute when Tajon Buchanan scored off a Hugo Delhommelle cross.

QUOTABLE – SLU Head Coach Mike McGinty
“The result is tough. When you go up a goal, at home, it feels like you are going to be able to see it out. Their goal was a blow to us, but I was still really proud of our guys. They worked their socks off. It is not the result we wanted but there were a number of positives we will take from this and move forward to Sunday.”
BILLIKENS' NEXT GAME
Saint Louis hosts No. 22 Michigan State (1-0 after defeating SIUE tonight) on Sunday in a 6 p.m. kickoff. The Billikens’ 1967 team, which shared the NCAA crown with Michigan State, will be introduced at halftime in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the title. In addition, the first 300 SLU students in attendance receive a free SLU men’s soccer T-shirt.
