Saint Louis and Akron played 110 minutes of scoreless soccer Saturday night at Hermann Stadium.
The Billikens move to 1-3-1 on the season, while Akron goes to 2-2-1.
Senior goalkeeper Sascha Otte made three saves for the shutout, his second clean sheet in a row. He entered the match tied for third nationally among active NCAA Division I goalkeepers with 21 shutouts. Saint Louis outshot Akron 15-11 for the match, including 5-2 in the two 10-minute overtime sessions.
Akron played a man down for the entire second overtime period when Nate Schultz was issued a red card for fouling a SLU player on a fast break.
SLU had several dangerous chances in overtime, including a corner kick that saw Jacob Krupp’s attempt bang off the far post. Akron had a chance to win in the closing seconds of the second OT, but a wall of Billiken defenders stationed on the goal line cleared an Akron attempt.
