Denver scored a pair of first-half goals and held off a Saint Louis charge Tuesday to post a 3-1 win over the Billikens in nonconference men’s soccer action at Hermann Stadium.
The loss snapped the Billikens’ three-game unbeaten streak as they fall to 2-4-1 on the season. Denver, which advanced to the College Cup last season, improves to 5-4.
Ryan Barlow scored in the 20th and 23rd minutes to give Denver the early 2-0 advantage.
Moments later, Lennart Hein converted a PK after a Pioneers player was whistled for a handball in the box.
The Billikens, who outshot Denver 14-9 and had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks, had several chances to equalize down 2-1 but were unable to get another goal past Denver keeper Nick Gardner.
Denver’s Alex Underwood curled in a free kick in the 83rd for the insurance tally.
