Despite an early Saint Louis tally, Massachusetts posted a 3-1 victory over the Billikens Saturday in the Atlantic 10 Conference men's soccer opener for both teams.
SLU falls to 2-5-1 overall and 0-1-0 in A-10 play. UMass improves to 6-2-2 and 1-0-0 in the league.
Lennart Hein tallied his team-leading fourth goal of the season in the sixth minute to put SLU on the board early. But UMass responded with the equalizer 10 minutes later, then tacked on two more goals for the 3-1 final.
