Saint Louis registered its biggest win in recent history Sunday, defeating the Indiana Hoosiers 3-2 at Sportport International.

With the win, SLU improves to 4-7 overall. Indiana moves to 5-6.

The win against Indiana is another example of the Billikens’ continued improvement. The victory marked the first time SLU defeated Indiana since 2001. In addition, the Billikens’ four victories so far this year are the most since the 2008 squad also won four matches.

On Sunday, the Billikens tallied three times in the first half and hung on for the win. Carly Kissinger opened the scoring in the eighth minute when she pounced on a rebound after a long run and shot by Katie Moss. Five minutes later, Hannah Smith deflected a Moss shot after a penalty corner, making it 2-0 Bills. Freshman Julia Bakker scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 18th minute when she shot from the center of the circle and put one past the Indiana keeper.

Indiana got one goal back at halftime, and the teams headed into the break with the Billikens leading 3-1.

The Hoosiers made it a one-goal game in the 42nd minute, but they were unable to get one past SLU goalie Lillian Cossetto the rest of the way. The Billiken defense fought off 12 IU corners in the second half alone to seal the win.
