Saint Louis took No. 24 Massachusetts down to the wire before eventually falling 3-2 Friday night in Atlantic 10 Conference field hockey action at Sportport International.

The Billikens fall to 4-9 overall and 0-6 in the A-10. The Minutewomen remain in first place in the A-10 with an 11-4 overall mark and a 5-1 league record.

SLU fell behind 3-0 but never stopped battling, and they pulled to within one goal and were inches away from tying the game late.

Carly Kissinger scored in the 60th minute off a penalty corner. Less than five minutes later, Katie Moss scored to make it a one-goal game. Erica Bondoc recorded assists on both goals, and Micaela Diaz had an assist on Moss' tally.

Saint Louis had two penalty corners when time expired after 70 minutes of play, but just missed scoring a goal that would have sent the game into overtime.

The Billikens hit the road for a pair of games in North Carolina. They play Appalachian State Thursday, Oct. 19, and Davidson on Saturday, Oct. 21.
