SAINT LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Saint Louis Baseball’s bats came out on Saturday once again. The Billikens plated eight runs on the day, including a six-run fifth and clinched the series win over Chicago State 8-4.

Saint Louis (3-7) put its offense to work early on Saturday and grabbed a 2-0 lead after one inning. Alex King recorded the first hit of the game for the Billikens with a bunt single to put a runner on first with one out. Parker Sniatynski followed with a single before Jake Garella doubled home the first two runs of the game.

The Billikens remained up by a pair until the fifth inning.

Chicago State plated two unearned runs in the top half of the inning to tie it, which led to Saint Louis posting a crooked number in the bottom half. A pair of walks to start the inning to King and Sniatynski, and a double steal allowed Garella another big opportunity.

The Billiken right fielder looped a 2-1 pitch into right field, which scored the first two, and gave Saint Louis its two-run lead right back. Carter Hanford and James Morisano followed with singles and the home team never looked back. Four runs followed including a bases loaded walk to Cole Dubet and two RBI double from King to make it an 8-2 game.

Connor Lehman had a solid outing for Saint Louis on Saturday. The senior tossed four and two-thirds of an inning and allowed just five hits and two runs, none of which were earned. Drew Reveno, Colin Townsend, Sean Frontzak and Zach Frieling entered in relief and helped hold the lead and preserved the win. Frieling’s two runs allowed were the only earned runs the Billikens surrendered on the day.

Garella led the Billikens with a 2-4 day at the plate with four RBI. King went 2-3 with a pair of RBI while Morisano collected an RBI with a two hit day.

Saint Louis will complete the three game set on Sunday with the series finale against Chicago State. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at the Billiken Sports Center.
