THE BASICS

• Alyssa Tarquinio hit two home runs and Kallen Loveless picked up her second pitching victory of the season in Saint Louis’ Atlantic 10 Conference doubleheader split with Dayton Thursday afternoon.

The Billikens posted a 5-2 win in the nightcap after falling 11-4 in the opener.

SLU is 19-16 overall and 5-3 in the A-10. Dayton is 13-19, 4-4.

 

GAME 1 – HOW IT HAPPENED

Dayton scored a run in the first inning, three in the second and one in the fourth to establish a 5-0 lead.

Saint Louis scored all of its runs in the fifth. Tarquinio led off with a home run. With two outs, Allie Macfarlane rapped an RBI single and Kaylea Chappelle delivered a two-run single to narrow the Dayton lead to 5-4.

The Flyers answered with a run in the fifth and five in the sixth.

 

GAME 1 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES

Macfarlane had two hits.

• Kat Lane, Sadie Wise and Mackenzie Lawson notched a single apiece.

 

GAME 2 – HOW IT HAPPENED

Dayton again grabbed a 1-0 first-inning lead.

SLU went ahead for good in the second on Chappelle’s third home run of the season, a two-run shot.

The Billikens made it 4-1 in the third on Wise’s RBI double and Macfarlane’s RBI single.

Dayton drew closer with a run in the sixth. But in the seventh, Saint Louis re-established a three-run lead on Tarquinio’s solo blast, her third homer of the year.

 

GAME 2 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES

Loveless (2-2) went the distance in the circle. Loveless scattered eight hits, struck out five, allowed just one earned run and did not walk a batter.

Tarquinio added a single for a two-hit game.

• Lauren Lomax (double) and Lane tallied a hit apiece.

 

UP NEXT

The Billikens stay in Dayton to face St. Bonaventure in an A-10 doubleheader on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. (CT).
