ST. LOUIS Saint Louis women’s tennis is the No. 9 seed for the 36th annual Atlantic 10 Conference Championship, scheduled for Wednesday-Saturday, April 24-27, at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.


SLU faces No. 8 Rhode Island in the first round of the single-elimination tournament Wednesday at 11 a.m. (CT). A victory over the Rams would match the Billikens against No. 1 seed and defending champion VCU in Thursday’s quarterfinals at 2 p.m. VCU, which has won five of the last six A-10 titles, and No. 2 seed George Washington received first-round byes.


Should they advance, the Bills would play in the semifinals Friday at 2 p.m. Saturday’s title match, the winner of which receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, also begins at 2 p.m.


In addition to the SLU-Rhode Island contest, other first-round matches are No. 3 Massachusetts vs. No. 14 La Salle; No. 4 Duquesne vs. No. 13 St. Bonaventure; No. 5 Davidson vs. No. 12 Saint Joseph’s; No. 6 Richmond vs. No. 11 Dayton; and No. 7 Fordham vs. No. 10 George Mason.
