THE BASICS
• Sadie Wise and Kaylyn Breitbach hit two home runs apiece to back the pitching of Kallen Loveless and Kaylea Chappelle in Saint Louis' 6-4, 12-0 Atlantic 10 Conference doubleheader sweep of Saint Joseph's Saturday afternoon.
• Now on a season-long five-game winning streak, the Billikens evened their conference record at 9-9 and improved to 15-29 overall. Saint Joseph's fell to 11-8 in the A-10 and 23-21 overall.
• In addition to her home runs, Wise collected her 17th double in the opener to set SLU's single-season record.
GAME 1 – HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's scored a run in the bottom of the first inning.
• Saint Louis pulled even in the third on Wise's RBI double.
• The Hawks took a 2-1 lead in their half of the third.
• The Billikens exploded for five runs in the fourth. Breitbach led off with a home run, and with two outs, Wise connected for a grand slam that put SLU in front 6-2.
• Saint Joseph's tallied twice in the bottom of the fourth, but that would end the scoring. Loveless stranded two runners in the fifth and then retired the Hawks in order in each of the final two frames.
GAME 1 BILLIKEN NOTABLES
• Loveless allowed only two earned runs in picking up her eighth win of the season.
• Wise added a single for a three-hit game.
• Breitbach, Maria Connell and Lauren Lomax had two hits apiece, and Alyssa Chavez recorded a single.
GAME 2 – HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Louis pounced early, plating four first-inning runs. Gabbie Kowalik got things going with an RBI single, and Breitbach made it 4-0 with her fifth homer of the year, a three-run blast.
• In a three-run third inning, Connell and Chavez registered RBI singles, and a third run scored on an error.
• Wise went deep for a sixth time this season with a two-run shot in the fourth that upped the lead to 9-0.
• Mackenzie Lawson added insurance in the fifth with a three-run long ball, her sixth homer of the year.
GAME 2 BILLIKEN NOTABLES
• Chappelle was brilliant in the circle as she chalked up her fourth victory of the season and third in her last three appearances. She allowed only three hits and one walk.
• Kowalik, Breitbach, Connell and Chavez had two hits apiece.
• Lomax smacked a double, while Kat Lane and Allie Herron tallied a single apiece.
